School and Medical Update

Went to drama today and practiced for about two hours. We only have 2 1/2 weeks until we perform, lots of work yet to do. After returning from drama Grace read from In the Days of Noah and Greek Myths. Her creative writing assignment was to write about a collection she had, she chose to write about her rock collection. I was surprised to see her get so in to it and write more than she usually does. We also did a lesson from Life of Fred, cursive, word of the day book, context clue cards and 30 minutes of independent reading. Usually Tuesday is a light day due to fine arts classes.

We got the word back on how much the drug company would reduce the cancer drug cost for my mom - get ready for this astounding good fortune that came our way - $2000.00 dollars a month. Can you believe that! How do they expect your average Joe to pay that kind of money for a monthly drug. Went over to my mom's house tonight to write a letter of appeal to the drug company and explain what all we have been through over the past 4 years and how much out of pocket expenses they pay for health insurance, prescription drugs, gas money back and forth to Emory, doctor's visits, labs, etc. Mom will fax it tomorrow to them and see how it goes. Not to mention we looked this drug up on the Internet and so many side effects, very scary. Not really that much different than what she was on before, but still scary. Tomorrow after lunch going back over to moms to help her get groceries and hubby and Grace will sit with daddy. We are still to afraid to leave him alone for any stretch of time. But he hasn't had any more TIA episodes, so we are very thankful for that.

Love you guys! Tell Mom not to worry. She knows that God takes care of those who love Him and we know how she loves Him!

Have you looked into financial aid grants from non-profits? I received a few when I was in chemo--although, my stipends covered only my anti-nausea drugs.

Nonetheless, you should check out as many organizations as possible--if you need names & links to websites, please let me know (go ahead and e-mail me).

Still keeping both your mom & dad in my prayers!

Makes me so glad I live in Australia with a wonderful health scheme. There are so many Australians who don't know how lucky they are. Great news about your Dad's progress. You are doing a wonderful job juggling everything.

Hi Diane,

I know I am posting a comment here in relation to your earlier post about cooking from scratch etc. I am playing catch up with my blog reading so I apologise for posting my comment here and not on the relevent post (dont know if you go back and read late comments) I just wanted to tell you that I admire you for stepping out of your comfort zone and wanting to make a difference to your families eating and way of living. It is one of the most rewarding journeys as you learn more about nutrition, the delights that come from frugal (and green) living. The only advice I felt drawn to give is - one step at a time. Every mountain that was ever conquored, began with one step. You don't have to do it all at once, that would be too discouraging. Start with something small (I see baking bread in one of your posts)and go from there. May the Lord bless you as you begin this very worthwhile journey.

Blessings in Christ

Diane,
$2000? Ouch! That just seems more than unfair! But the drug companies are, well, let's put it this way, I cannot say such bad names, so I'll leave it at that. They have you cornered....your appeal may or may not work, but my thought it they will just reduce it to maybe $1500 or $1000 per month. I am so sorry your mom is going through all this and you too trying to help her! Good to hear your dad is much better! If you and your mom are open to alternative therapies for cancer, let me know....I am an RN, but went into alternative medicine when my own health was poor and the doctors did little to help (they made me worse in fact). Just shoot me a private email! Hope all is well otherwise! Many prayers your way!
