Weekly Wrap Up

I won't be going in any particular order. Thursday we went to see a production of Alice in Wonderland and afterward ate at Olive Garden.

Tuesday at Cooperative was Heritage Day. Most of the kids dressed as their ancestors. Grace has German heritage but we had trouble finding a costume to wear. So recently we had learned that the Danes/Vikings pretty much took over everything early on so she decided to go as a Viking.

Grace has been pretty fascinated with all things Alice again and created a book mark as well as picked out thrift store finds to create a costume for the next anime convention.

Tonight we went to a Zumba class and Zaxbys for dinner. She is currently going through all of her costume accessories and sorting them in a new container with drawers. She has so much stuff it really needed to be sorted.

This week Grace read about Charlemagne, nests that different birds make through our bird study, and how French took over as the official language after the Battle of Hastings. We are almost finished with the book Glaucia about the early church and recently started Adam of the Road to go along with our Medieval History study. Grace is also very speedily trying to memorize the remainder of her lines for the upcoming Shakespeare performance. Algebra is still the bane of her existence. She absolutely hates it but is understanding it more and more as we go. If I can just get through to her the fact of always following the rules and formulas for solving equations then she might have it nailed down.

I will have three reviews posted in the next coming with about God's World News Magazine, Spelling City, and a grammar program through Bridgeway.

Wonderquest Performance Number 7

Each year we travel to the Wonderquest production. Grace has about aged out of the program as most of the audience is younger than herself. But of course us be drama geeks still go. This year was to be a real treat, "Alice in Wonderland". Hubby had the day off and we made it a family day. First the production, then lunch at Olive Garden, then thrift shopping for materials to make costumes.

The theatre is beautiful and small.

We always love seeing the set design and costumes.

Some Random Stuff From the Past Couple of Days

This week at Cooperative was Heritage Day. Everyone dressed up as their ancestors. We had a little bit of everything. The boy on the right is from an area in India that actually had head hunters.

Yesterday we had to wrangle some chickens that had escaped. The one Grace is holding was not one of them, but she is the most docile bird we have. Her eye was injured in some way as a chick and it has looked like this from early on.

Grace created a couple more bookmarks. Currently we are all kind of Alice crazy because of the new Wonderland show coming on television this week, plus we are going to see a production today at a children's theatre, and Grace is planning on doing a steam punk version for a costume.

This is my Yearbook class at the Cooperative. Great group of kids. Most of these I have known for years.

Finally this is my Puppetry Class practicing "Born in a Barn" to perform next month.

New Art From Grace

It isn't often that I have something to post for Grace's art these days. She is creating a lot of digital art that she doesn't necessarily give me the chance to take pictures of. This morning while we were reading some of the new Michael Vey book she decided to sketch and color this character out.

The Spoiled Princess

This reminds me of the Princess and the Pea. Puppy is the queen of the house and she loves climbing up on the pillows to sleep while I am working.

Weekly Wrap Up

Wow, were did this week go. Each week seems to go by faster and faster. I know we will never get everything accomplished that I had set for this school year. Grace has so many new passions this year to add to the old ones from last year. Drama and art is still a huge part of her life but now she is interested in costuming and cosplaying. The last two are discussed on a daily basis. She is currently in planning mode to create three different costumes to cosplay at the next AWA convention in Atlanta. She wants to stay all three days hence the need of three costumes. One for each day. Anyway for those that don't really know what cosplaying is there is a series you can watch on Hulu Plus called Hereos of Cosplay. Only six episodes but you will kind of get the idea. In the cosplay world there are many females that dress too provocatively but that is not what our family is all about, so we just forge our own path. Grace is currently looking at developing a costume for Astrid for How to Train Your Dragon, a Steam Punk version of Alice in Wonderland in sepia tones, and a character from an anime book. Well, enough of that and let's get on to other things we did this week.

Monday - Grace woke up sick for a little while in the morning due to her medication. This happens a couple of times a month. After she got herself together we got a little bit of school work accomplished. We were supposed to go to a small group meeting that afternoon but it didn't pan out due to waking up yucky. I went to Zumba without Grace after dinner because of the same problem but she did decide to work out on her own at home.

Tuesday - Monday night Grace had a friend sleep over because we were watching her friend while her mother was to leave to go out of town. They did school work together the next morning and then we all headed off to Cooperative. Grace is furiously trying to memorize all her lines for Shakespeare play.

Wednesday - Mostly just school work.

Thursday - Grace had a doctor's appt midday so we took the day off and did some shopping since we had to travel about an hour to get to the doctor's office. Mostly we wanted to look at the Halloween shops for costume ideas for her cosplaying and spirit month at the Cooperative. Imagine Crazy Hat and Hair Day, Vintage Day, Media Character Day, and Heritage Day. The kids are all having a really great time with this.

Friday - This brings us to today. Grace woke up this morning sick again, we are in the process of changing her medication so hopefully this will stop happening. This afternoon we were able to get about half of our school work done and will do the remainder of it tomorrow. No plans for the weekend so we will just play catch up with school work.

Mushrooms

Almost two years ago we inoculated some logs in the backyard to grow mushrooms. We had pretty much given up hope until low and behold we found almost three pounds of Shitake mushrooms ready to harvest. Scott decided to give some away and he cut the others up to freeze for future omelets.
