Horse Park Part 2

As promised here is our second edition of pics from the Horse Park. The statue in the distance is one of the greatest horses that ever lived, Man O War. The grounds at the park are beautiful. Actually the Kentucky that we have seen so far is all green and somewhat flat, much different that what we are used to living in the woods and mountains.
I remember this horse from my childhood.

This is a close up picture of Man O War. I did learn something interesting about how they bury horses. They bury the head for its intelligence, heart for personality and will to win and hooves for the horses agility and speed and then cremate the rest to spread the ashes over the horse farm they are from. Do you see Scott and Grace below? This is a trolley ride pulled by draft horses. Me and Sue decided to skip it, there were alot of people waiting to ride, and we wanted to sit with puppy.

There were two ponies that Grace enjoyed feeding.

Alot of pasture land with horses dotting the countryside.
On the way back home we rode the scenic route through horse farm country. Lots of money out there and very beautiful. Grace favorite part of the park was the Gift Store where I let her pick out her Easter gift. They had wall to wall Breyer Horses which she collects. She picked one of the classics and a pack of Bella Sara cards.

Kentucky Horse Park Part 1

I think I will split this up in to 2 or 3 posts because I have a million pictures to share from the Horse Park. Grace had been looking forward to this for weeks and she finally got to go today. The weather was perfect. When we looked at the website last night we were thrilled to find out that pets are allowed as long as you carry them inside the buildings, so needless to say puppy went with us. The above picture is my mother in law holding puppy while we watched the Parade of Breeds show.
All the pictures in this post are mostly from the Parade of Breeds show.

Scott took this picture, he was fascinated with the house in the background which was the business office for the Horse Park. Sue took the picture below of use including puppy in front of the bronze statue of Secretariat (spelling?). More to come for tomorrow.

Here in Kentucky

I didn't think that I would be posting while we were visiting in Kentucky, but someone in the subdivision has WIFI and we are sponging off of them. Yesterday was a beautiful Easter day. The family came over to my mother in laws house for a huge Easter Feast that was delicious. The remainder of the day was spent outside talking, playing, etc. I finished a book last night and am starting another one today. Today we hope to head out to the Kentucky Horse Park. Will definitely have a long post about that with lots of pictures. Puppy came with us and has been great about everything. She is a good traveler, except her appetite is off a little bit. Having a fun and relaxing time.

Journey to Jerusalem

Tonight our church had its first annual Journey to Jerusalem. It was a wonderful night and a big success. We estimated 200-300 people attended. You were greeted by Roman Soldiers on horseback when you pulled up to the event.
I took some pics before the event begin because I was working in the marketplace and knew I might not get back to all the stations before they closed for the night. This is the Living Last Supper. Each attendee was offered communion if they wished after watching Jesus and the disciples do the same.

This was King Herod's Palace, which is where Grace worked as a servant girl to the King and where all the food was placed on a beautiful buffet. King Herod had many servants tonight and sent them on many errands for himself.
This was the money changers table. Each child that attended was given gold coins to spend in the marketplace.
Grace and my niece Danielle in the marketplace before we got started.

Grace in King Herod's Palace.

The Pottery Shop in the marketplace.

Good friends that worked grinding grain all evening.

At another station outside each person went on a prayer walk and carried a cross.

They buried a big speaker in the ground and make the earth tremble like an earthquake

At the end of the prayer walk was the empty tomb. Fun was had by all. See ya when we return from Kentucky.

200th Post

Well, I wish I had something mind blowing to share for my 200th post, but I don't. Just wanted to let everyone know that we are leaving tomorrow for Kentucky and won't have computer access till Thursday or Friday of next week. Hope everyone has a wonder Easter weekend and if you are on Spring Break, have a great one.

Puppy

Grace drew this for me today. This is her interpretation of puppy our beloved poodle. I took some pictures of puppy so you could get an idea of the similarities.

Last Day of School and Nature Study

Nature Study has not been apart of our school all year. Mainly because of time and just the dreary weather. Today we started back with Nature Study and I asked Grace to go out in the yard and take three pictures of examples of Spring. This first is an Easter Lily that won't bloom for Easter this year. The second is my hydrangea bush that never quite blooms with color and the third is some of Grace's favorite little weed flowers that pop up.

I didn't plan alot of school today it being the last day until after Spring Break. As mentioned above we did our first Nature Study. We also continued reading Brady, this book takes places before the Civil War and deals with freeing slaves and the Underground Railroad. She is really enjoying this living book and we only have 5 more chapters. Hopefully we will finish the slavery lapbook at the same time. Next on the history timeline we will go out west and read a story about the Alamo and life in that area in the early 1800's. Grace has almost finished her book In the Days of Noah which she has also enjoyed alot. Did another bridge in Life of Fred, preposition worksheet and an activity in the Helen Keller lapbook. Grace is just about finished with book 6 in the Warrior series and is looking forward to starting the new series, probably while we are on vacation. Lots of washing, packing and organizing for the trip to Kentucky. Picked up the new scripts for our final skits for drama, Grace has the lead in one. Looking forward to a week off from school and everything. The trip to Kentucky will be quick but needed, haven't seen the family in the area in a couple of years.
